Top story: Messi to sign new deal, Mourinho wants Fabinho

Lionel Messi has had a tough time of it of late. But he could be rewarded with a new contract by Barcelona when he gets back from holiday. Mundo Deportivo say that the forward will sign until 2021, with his current deal ending in 2018. The club are also scouting 19-year-old Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa. The Brazilian has also been linked with Chelsea, but told a news conference that "soon we will know something more" about his future.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen his Manchester United defence by adding £22 million-rated Monaco right-back Fabinho, according to the Sun.
Fabinho, 22, is a Brazil international and has impressed in three seasons with Monaco, helping them to qualify for the Champions League on three occasions. And, would you believe it, Fabinho and Mourinho share an agent. Yes, that man Jorge Mendes, and it isn't the first time the pair have done business with the player either. Fabinho spent a season on loan with Real Madrid in 2012-13 when Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu.

Bayern lining up surprise move for Arsenal star

Bayern Munich are considering a move for Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, after talks about a new contract with the Gunners stalled, the Sunday Express reports.
Koscielny, who only has one year left on his current deal and was in talks about an extension worth £90,000-per-week, is wanted by Bayern as back-up to Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels, something which may not be of great interest to the France international who is a proven player at the top level. But the chance to test himself at one of Europe's top sides is sure to be tempting.

Koeman demands Bony before giving green light on Stones

Everton are finally coming around to the idea of parting ways with John Stones, but new manager Ronald Koeman is determined to grab a key player in return. And with the prospect of losing Romelu Lukaku sometime soon, the Toffees are floating around the idea of bringing Wilfried Bony to Goodison Park.
The Mirror reports Everton would prefer a £50m cash deal, but Koeman has close links with City's sporting director Txiki Begiristain from his time with Barcelona.
Despite his flaws, Stones' ability on the ball is a match made in heaven for Pep Guardiola, and the defender looks likely to finally leave Goodison Park.

Hal Robson-Kanu must decide on future

After coming back down to earth following Wales' Euro 2016 party, Hal Robson-Kanu must make a decision as to where he will play his football next season.
Despite a lucrative deal to go to China on the table, the Welsh striker is leaning towards accepting Hull City's offer with the Mail reporting that a four-year deal is on the table.
The 27-year-old also has offers from Swansea, Burnley and Watford, but he could line up for the Tigers under Steve Bruce in the Premier League.

Tap-ins

- Everton have entered the race to sign Newcastle's Georginio Wijnaldum after Tottenham baulked at the Toon's £25m price tag. The former PSV box-to-box midfielder could add much-needed athleticism with Gareth Barry's influence waning.
- Juan Mata's time at United appears to be up. Well, this was always going to be the case when Jose Mourinho walked through the doors, and a bright performance in the friendly vs. Wigan won't change that, according to the People.
A return to La Liga is likely and Espanyol have emerged as candidates, as the Barcelona-based club now have increased funds after Chinese investment.
- Multiple reports also linked Marcos Rojo to a loan to Villarreal this season with his spot at United increasingly uncertain.

Turkey coup attempt: Erdogan rounds up suspected plotters

Soldiers in the coup attempt surrender Saturday on Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge.
(CNN)Two days after a failed military coup, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed a continued crackdown on those behind it -- and those perceived to have been involved -- as large crowds heeded his call to fill the nation's streets.
Thousands of soldiers have been arrested and hundreds of judiciary members removed since Friday's uprising, which left at least 290 people dead and more than 1,400 injured in a chaotic night of violence.
Around 6,000 people have been detained and arrests will continue, according to Turkey's foreign ministry.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has vowed that "they will pay a heavy price." Erdogan said that he will remove the "viruses" from all state institutions.
The arrests include Gen. Bekir Ercan Van, commander of the Incirlik Air Base, according to the Turkish President's office. The United States uses the airbase to launch airstrikes on ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
An "order of detention" for Col. Ali Yazici, a senior military aide to Erdogan, has also been issued, according to Anadolu.
Eight Turkish soldiers flew a helicopter to Alexandroupoli, Greece, hours after the failed coup attempt, where they were arrested and charged with "illegal entrance" into Greece. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said they would be extradited within "15 to 20 days," Erdogan said Sunday in a speech outside his Istanbul residence.
Clashes occurred Sunday between security forces and coup plotters resisting arrest nearly 200 miles south of Ankara at Konya Airbase, a source told CNN. The government is now in control of the situation, the source said.
Erdogan attended a funeral on Sunday held for some of those killed during gunfire -- including the brother of his chief adviser, Mustafa Varank.
"It is not anything ordinary that my young brothers lay under tank pellets; this is a manifest of faith," Erdogan said.
He also said he did not rule out bringing back the death penalty for the coup's perpetrators.
As the crowd chanted "we want the death penalty," he said, "we can't ignore the people's request in a democracy -- this is your right."
"This right has to be evaluated by the appropriate authorities according to the constitution and a decision can be made," Erdogan said in the address broadcast live on TV.
He asked supporters to stay on guard.
"You should fill the squares. This isn't a 12-hour operation. We will continue determinedly." see more
