Donald Trump
on Monday defended women who wear burkas – but did so in the perhaps
worst way possible, suggesting they might prefer the traditional Islamic
veils because it frees them from having to put on makeup.
The GOP presidential hopeful, who according to a new national poll has lost his front-runner status to rival Ben Carson, said at a rally in New Hampshire Monday, "I saw a woman interviewed. They said, 'We want to wear [burkas], we've worn them for a thousand years. Why would anybody tell us not to?' They want to! What the hell are we getting involved for?"
"Fact is, it's easy. You don't have to put on makeup, look how beautiful everyone looks. Wouldn't it be easier? Right? Wouldn't that be easy?" he asked the audience, adding that he would wear one himself if he were a woman.
He then waved a hand across his face to mimick a woman wearing a burka and said: "I'm ready, darling, let's go!"
Trump's comments were met with outrage on the internet.

To Trump, women wear a burka or wear a full face of makeup. There isn't a "don't wear makeup" option.

Or we could, I dunno, just not wear either? Is Trump aware a burka isn’t just about covering your face? https://t.co/fzESlrVdpB

Shocker that Trump misses the point on burkas.

And Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar criticized the billionaire businessman's remarks on The View Tuesday, with Golberg saying, "It's not a vanity thing."
"But it's about women's looks again," Behar added. "We don't need to constantly hear about our looks."
